Introducing the Department of R&D

The VDT’s Research & Development department is dedicated to the many scientific and technical topics connected with the profession of the sound engineer and with the listening experience – from everyday practical questions to emerging technologies in the industry. It serves as a bridge between professional practice, current research, and forward-looking developments.

Our history

Our activities so far include moderating and presenting at conferences and seminars, founding specialist groups such as the “Virtuelle Akustik”(Virtual Acoustics) committee – which deals with the standardization and further development of spatial audio reproduction methods – and co-organizing the first International Congress on Spatial Audio (ICSA), later continued at Fraunhofer IIS in Erlangen and at IEM in Graz.

The department also works closely with the Wiki Audio Team to develop, promote, and expand a virtual encyclopedia for the audio community – as a useful tool for all audio enthusiasts.

Share your ideas with us!

The department is open to suggestions and ideas from all members. Its goal is to create a dynamic, creative, and constructive platform for sharing common interests, original ideas, and new perspectives – and to coordinate these within the VDT.

We warmly invite everyone who is interested to get involved and help shape the future of research and development in audio. We look forward to exchanging ideas with you!
