Dolby Atmos - Immersive and Interactive Technology and Applications in Broadcast, Music and Film
|
The second event of the VDT Berlin Regional Group in 2025 centered around immersive and interactive audio worlds. Under the title “Dolby Atmos – Technology and Applications”, more than 40 participants came together to exchange insights on current developments and practical experiences with the object-based surround sound format. |
|
The program offered a varied mix of technical introductions, case studies, and audio demonstrations:
- Introduction to Dolby Atmos – David Ziegler (Dolby) provided an overview of the technology and its capabilities.
- Broadcast Use Cases – Roman Rehausen (VDT Berlin) shared insights into the production workflow used during the Olympic Games with France Télévisions, using Serialized ADM Metadata.
- Music Production Case Study – Hans-Martin Buff offered a behind-the-scenes look at his work on Peter Gabriel’s i/o album, which won the Grammy for “Best Immersive Audio Album.” A lively exchange with the audience followed – Buff noted how special it was for him to share his work with such a knowledgeable group of professionals.
- Film Example and Workflow Discussion– Christian Riegel (Tonbüro) presented film projects and invited open discussion.
The presentations took place in a cinema mixing stage equipped with a 7.1.4 monitoring system – an ideal acoustic environment for experiencing immersive audio concepts firsthand.
After the talks, attendees had time to network, ask questions, and further explore the topic in a relaxed atmosphere. A heartfelt thanks goes out to all contributors, as well as to the teams at Tonbüro and Dolby Germany for their support.
