Real-Time Sound Creation and Production Techniques in Game Audio
Dear colleagues,
We’re excited to invite you to an evening focused on recent developments in game audio. This time, we’ll be hosted by SRH University Berlin, whose Audiodesign program aligns perfectly with the topic.
The program includes two talks from industry professionals:
- Kris Wratt (they/them), see details of the speaker below, Technical Sound Designer, Audio Programmer, and Composer, will present their work using Unreal Engine’s Metasounds subsystem. This powerful system allows game audio developers to apply advanced digital techniques directly within interactive environments.
- Kris will be presenting work they have undertaken using Unreal Engine's 'Metasounds' subsystem, a tool that allows game audio developers to introduce extended digital audio techniques generally associated with DAWs or Max MSP, into their games. Kris will demonstrate the real time creation of procedural sound effects, midi input quantization, custom DSP effects, and musical audio synthesis in Unreal Engine, and show how they made use of such techniques in the game Mirror Mall created in collaboration with Berlin's Fantasia Malware Collective earlier this year.
- Craig Owen, Lead Sound Designer at YAGER, will give a talk on one of his projects or a specific game audio technique. (Details to follow.)
After the presentations, there will be time for informal exchange with SRH staff and students, as well as a short guided tour of the campus and its facilities.

About the speaker:
Kris Wratt (they/them) is a technical sound designer, audio programmer, and composer from Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Aotearoa (New Zealand), currently based in Berlin. Over the past decade and a half they have held a number of positions in industry as an audio programmer (ex Ableton, the Cargo Cult, the Audio Programmer), and as a technical sound designer in XR and games industries (Usomo, Patch XR, Psychedelic Games).
