Open source in the audio industry: meeting at the Sonoj Convention
Invitation to the Sonoj Cologne Open Source Community Meeting on 20 May
Dear colleagues,
If you’re interested in open source in the audio sector, you’ve come to the right place. But there’s much more to it than that:
As is the case with the community as a whole, the focus is on making and producing music, complemented by software development, craftsmanship and maker topics, research, teaching and more.
The community, formerly known as OSAMC, has renamed itself Sonoj Cologne.
We have been invited to attend the next meeting. There are 5 places available, so please register quickly at
The topics for the evening will be suggested by those present. You can read on the website https://sonoj.org/koeln/ how the group sees itself:
"We value a pleasant, informal atmosphere. Everything is welcome, from active participation to simply listening. There are no prerequisites and no ‘minimum knowledge’ is required.
Our hope is that everyone who comes to us will go home motivated to create something themselves, and will want to show their own results later and pass on what they have learnt." Here you can also find the topics from the last meetings.
I’ve been a guest there myself before; I was given a very warm welcome and must say it was an exciting and enriching evening. That’s why I recommend you go along sometime. If you can’t make it on 20 May, perhaps you could go on another day. The group meets once a month, always on the third Wednesday.
One of the topics on 20 May will be: “Home Studio – sharing experiences, basics of acoustics,
hardware/software overview, etc. For different levels of requirement and budget.” It will essentially boil down to “For some things you don’t need
any money (software), for others you do (hardware).” But also a reality check that a studio and equipment alone don’t make good music.
The location is here:
Heliosstr. 6a, 50825 Cologne. Ground floor, at the Chaos Computer Club Cologne.
The entrance is on the side. The nearest tram and underground stations are Ehrenfeld and Venloer Straße/Gürtel.
It starts at 7.00 pm and finishes around 9.00 pm.
Best regards,
Christoph
