DCH – Digital Concert Hall, Production, Livestream, Archiving in Dolby Atmos

Dear colleagues,

Another highlight awaits us in Wuppertal. However, the focus is on Berlin – or, to be more precise, the Berlin Digital Concert Hall (DCH).

First things first:

As we can’t all just pop over to Berlin, Berlin is coming to us. In the form of Christoph Franke, the sound engineer responsible for the DCH and a Grammy nominee.
Christoph Franke will introduce us to the entire world of the DCH, showcasing the ingenious structure of the complete production process – from in-house recording and editing to live broadcasting and archiving of the concerts
by the Berlin Philharmonic, one of the world’s finest orchestras.
During the talk, he will introduce us to the bespoke front-end and back-end system, which now not only enables Dolby Atmos streaming of archived concerts but, as of this season, also live streaming in Dolby Atmos.
The entire setup will be examined, from the microphone placements and camera systems right through to the signal paths.
Christoph will also explain the distribution channels available exclusively to the Berlin Philharmonic for worldwide broadcasting.

We’ll meet on Monday 12 October 26 from 4.45 pm at the Hoisl Audio GmbH studio; the talk begins at 5.00 pm.

Hofaue 55, 42103 Wuppertal.
The studio is located in the rear building of the Bergische Musikschule; you need to walk through the courtyard and can then take the lift on your left straight up to the 4th floor.
Many thanks in advance to Emanuel Hoisl for allowing us to use his premises.

The building is about 10 minutes’ walk from the main railway station.

Parking: Contipark car park, Hofaue 71, 42103 Wuppertal. It’s 100 metres from there.
The car park opposite the City-Arkaden closes at 8.00 pm.

Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for further discussion and networking at a nearby restaurant. The first round of drinks is on RK Köln.

As capacity is limited, please confirm your attendance by email by 1 October. Please also let us know if you’ll be joining us for the social gathering afterwards. That way, we can book a table accordingly.

Best regards,
Christoph
