NEMOSINE is an EU founded project for the development of innovative packaging solutions for storage and conservation of audiovisual media and cultural heritage artefacts based on cellulose derivatives. The objective is to improve traditional storage solutions by developing an innovative package with the main goal of energy saving and extending the lifetime of the media. In contrast to conventional tape boxes and film cans, the packages will be equipped with the latest sensor technology based on multi-nano sensors for different gases, adsorbers for decomposition products and a control software platform that simulates degradation processes and then will predict accurate protective treatments.
In principle, the climate within the package can be individually shaped and remotely monitored, to fulfill the preservation needs of each individual item stored in such a NEMOSINE package. The presentation will introduce this innovative project and will give showcases of practical application.
Audio Archiving and Restoration - Challenges and Solutions
The presentation will give an overview about various challenges in audio archiving and restoration. When dealing with valuable original media which are already physically in a very bad shape, special restoration treatments have to be applied to bring them to a playable condition. The transfer can be highly complex as well, as the playback machines must be aligned individually and often need special modifications to fulfill the requirements of the individual and in most cases already obsolete audio format. The presentation is enriched by numerous sound examples.
